The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Sherman Alexie
The book is significant because it contributes a lot to the plot of the story. When Mr.P sits down to talk about why Junior threw the book at him they talked about how Junior can make his life so much more than just a 'typical indian'. This leads to Junior taking a chance and switching schools so he can chance his goals and have a better life. Without this part the book would end up completely different and many aspects would have never happened.
The part where Junior's sister wanted to be a romance writer is significant because without that is wouldn't have reveiled certain character traits of Junior. When Junior's sister got married and moved away Junior realized that since his sister never got the oppertunity to be a romance writer she is living the dream instead, he becomes more empithetic towards people as well as starts to understand why people do certain things.
Significant Quote One: The Book
"You were right to throw that book at me. I deserved to get smashed in the face for what I've done to Indians. Every white person on this rez should get smashed in the face. But, let me tell you this. All the Indians should get smashed in the face, too."
I was shocked. Mr. P was furious."The only thing you kids are being taught is how to give up."

Significant Quote Two: Sister's Dream to be a romance writer
"Oh, she loved to write short stories. Little romantic stories. She wouldn't let anybody read them. But she'd always be scribbling in her notebook."
"Wow," I said.
That was all I could say.
I mean, my sister had become a humanoid underground dweller. There wasn't much romance in that. Or maybe there was. Maybe my sister read romances all day. Maybe she was trapped in those romances.
