This quote is saying that as we go through life we experience many traumas/sorrows that we hold on to and try to hide. By doing this we are 'feeding' and creating depression. This quote is also trying to explain how many people tend to build up how they feel and then attempt to store it in them without letting it out. All this emotion attacks you and eventually pulls you into depression.
I couldn't find anything about the author, so this is what I think gave her the 'authority' to write this quote:
....for this quotation I think someone who has a higher would be saying this, maybe someone who studies psychology or is a councillor. Maybe the psychologist is writing something in her notes and she is referencing what she thinks is the cause of depression...
