2. Identify and Sort

A Thousand Splendid Suns
By: Khaled Hosseini
Five main elements of this my novel is: plot, character, setting, point of view and conflict.
The order I would put the elements according to my interest is: conflict, characters, setting, point of view and plot.
So far in this book conflict is used between the main character( Mariam) and her mother. There is also conflict between Mariam's Mother and Father, Mariam and her fatherand then Mariam and her husband. Each conflict is different and keeps me wanting to turn the pages to see what find out to the characters.

Example of conflict between Mariam and her father;

"I used to worship you" she said. Jalil stopped in mid sentence. He crossed and uncrossed his arms.
A young Hindi couple, the wife cradling a boy, husband dragging a suitcase, passed between them. Jalil seemed grateful for this interruption. They excused themselves, and he smiles back politely.
"On Thursdays, I sat for hours waiting for you. I worries myself sick you wouldn't show up." "It's a long trip. You should eat something. He said he could buy her some bread and goat cheese."I though about you all the time. I used to pray that you'd live to be a hundred years old. I didn't know. I didn't know that you were ashamed of me."Jailil looked down, and like an overgrown child, dug something with the toe of his shoe. "You were ashamed of me." "I'll visit you," he mutered. "I'll come to Kabul to see you. We'll-" "No.No," she said. "Don't come. I won't see you. Don't you come. I don't want to hear from you. Ever. Ever." He gave her a wounded look. "it end here for you and me. Say your good-byes." "Don't leave like this," he said in a thing voice. "You didn' even have the decency to give me the time to say good-bye to Mullah Faizullah." She turned and walked around to the side of the bus. She could hear him following her. When she reached the hydraulic doors, she heard him behind her.
"Mariam jo."
This quote represents when Mariams dad married her off to this old man after her mother killed herself. Mariams dad,Jalil, is a rich man who has three three wives, he slept with one of his servants and Mariam was born.  Mariam and her mom was sent to live by themselves away from Jalil and his wives. When Mariam's mom died she was sent to live with Jalil who ended up marrying her off.

1. Three Qualities of a Good Book

The Kite Runner
By: Khaled Hosseini
I think a good book need to have a good story line. It needs to be able to keep the reader reading and always wondering what is going to happen next. It needs to have well written characters. The characters are the people who explain the story so need to somewhat be able to relate to the character and be able to picture them in our heads. The final thing I think a good book needs to have is a proper ending. I like books that don't just leave you hanging, there needs to be some sort of closer.
So far I think my book demonstrates these qualities so far. The characters Khaled has created has me captivated to what is going to happen to them. He has a unique story for each on of his characters. The story line good as well. I am always wondering what is going to happen to the little servant boy Hassan, it keeps me turning the pages and that's what a good book needs to do.

Night

Night
Author: Elie Wisel

'Over there. Do you see the chimney over there? And the flames, do you see them?"( Yes, we see the flames.) "Over there. that's where they will take you. Over there that will be your grave. You still don't understand? You son of bitches. Don't you understand anything? You will be burned! Burned to a cinder. Turned into ashes"! His anger turned into fury. We stood stunned, petrified. Could this just be a nightmare? An unmaginable nightmare?

This book is a very sad story about how a father,a son (Elie), and their family were taken from their homes and moved to german camps. Its about how Elie survived and now is telling his story. This reminds me of all the other books I have read on the Holocoust. It is amazing how people can be so cruel to people just because of their religon, of their belifes. It is rediculous that the Nazis destroyed so many lives, and what they put people through. I don't know how one can be so cruel.

John Berger Quote

'When we read a story, we inhabit it.
The covers of the book are like a roof and four walls.
What is to happen next will take place within the four walls of the story.
And this is possible because the story's voice makes everything its own.
~ John Berger'

I chose this quote to represent my blog because I think it really says why I read. When I really like a book I inhabit it, I will not put the book down until it is done. The story talks on it's own, it has it's own characters right in your head, the words speak for themselves, they are the voice of your imagination.
